Service-Learning
"The nature of the relationship between the student and the voluntary organisation needs to be carefully thought through. Is it to be a relationship of partnership (and how is that to be defined)? Or is it about social change or about citizenship? For instance, the American Sociological Association has contributed a volume to the series of monographs linking service-learning with academic disciplines (Ostrow et al. 1999) where writers make the kind of value statements seldom heard in UK sociological circles, e.g. 'At its best, sociology is the discipline of the committed public citizen and servant' ".
